The New Exhibition at NYBG That You Need to Know About

The beloved New York Botanical Garden has a new exhibition this summer that is guaranteed to be worth travelling to the Bronx. Now open through September 17th, the gardens have been transformed by contemporary artist, Ebony G. Patterson.

Patterson received her BFA in painting from Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica and her MFA degree in printmaking and drawing from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. She is best known for her use of mixed media in her installations, which is demonstrated in her exhibition.

In a promotional video for the exhibition, Patterson describes her work as being “around visibility and invisibility.” She continues by saying, “...the truth isn’t on top of the garden, it’s actually below the garden.” Visitors who visit the exhibition should expect to be captivated by the beauty of Patterson’s exotic flora and “garden-inspired installations.” Patterson’s work at the garden also explores race, gender, and colonialism.

Make sure to check out Ebony G. Patterson’s stunning work through September 17th at the New York Botanical Garden. It can be found in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, as well as across NYBG’s landscape and galleries.
